Macroscopic individuals relevant to biology (and related fields) vary over space and change over time. In the case of change over time, metamorphosis and the alternation of generations are two sources of interesting problem cases. I will discuss these cases, and will also use them as the basis for a more general comparison between issues involving space and those involving time.
